Gallery Gwerk is focused mainly on contemporary Slovak art but also represents the artists from abroad. It presents oil paintings, graphic art, sculptures and photographs. The main objective of Gallery Gwerk is to promote the art in Slovakia. From its business activities Gallery Gwerk supports non-profit activities such as organization of the exhibitions and other cultural events and projects as well as support of publication activities. The gallery also presents Slovak artists abroad. We cooperate with the oldest and prestigious union af artists from Florence – Circolo degli Artisti Casa di Dante Alighieri.
Gallery portfolio includes mainly Slovak artists of middle generation, who are already well-know and established in Slovakia and in Czech republic. Our aim is to present beautiful art of good quality and thus make good reputation to the Slovak art also abroad.
The founder of the gallery is Galéria Gwerk oz – civic association.
Melita Fodor Gwerkova, founder and director of Gallery Gwerk
She was raised in an artistic environment and she inherited her relationship to art from her ancestors – Edmund Gwerk, Slovak modernist painter. She studied the International Business at the University of Economics in Bratislava and then passed professional internship of Economy and financing of the culture at l´Université Dauphine in Paris. Later she gained the experiences in financing of the cultural projects during her work in European Commission. Currently she is listed among the cultural experts of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission. In 2014 she passed her studies at prestigious auction house Sotheby´s in London. Then she enriched her knowledge in online course of the University of Glasgow in stolen art and antiquities smuggling. Since November 2015 she writes about interesting news from the art world on blog gwerkova.blog.sme.sk.
